  • Orientation Walk

    Type: Walking Tour. Location: Gateway Building

    The orientation walk is designed to help guests plan their visit.  Guides share the latest information on programming, dining and shopping options.  Guests get an overview of the 18th century community and learn about the restoration of Williamsburg.  The experience lasts approximately 30 minutes.

    Tours depart every 10-15 minutes.


  • Furniture for the Everard House

    Type: Day Program, Museum Program. Location: Thomas Everard House

    An in-depth specialist tour for furniture enthusiasts led by expert volunteers.

  • "In Their Own Words:" African Americans in the Revolutionary Era

    Type: African American, Day Program. Location: Greenhow Ticket Office

    “In Their Own Words” African Americans in the Revolutionary Era, is an interactive walking history tour that provides an overview of how free and enslaved African Americans struggled to be both free and equal during the American Revolution.

    The tour will use a variety of documents and props during the walk through the historic sites. Guests will discover the free blacks and slaves’ perspective, in their own words, despite the laws, religion and social customs that denied them American citizenship during the American Revolution. Guests will engage about the choices, decisions, and consequences made by free and enslaved people during the American Revolution. Free reservation required.


  • Building Great Hopes Plantation: Reconstructing Rural Houses by Hand

    Type: Day Program. Location: Great Hopes Plantation

    Through explanation and interactive techniques, trades interpreters will present modern and historical construction of rural buildings. Interpreters will lead guests through kitchen and slave house and use carpenter yard, tools and techniques to help guests discover how buildings were constructed using 18th-century techniques.


  • Meet the Musician

    Type: Day Program. Location: Raleigh Tavern

    Stop by to chat and enjoy music played by a member of the resident performing ensemble at Colonial Williamsburg, the Governor’s Musick. Program is ongoing and guests can come and go as they wish. Space is limited.


  • Public Audience with a Founding Father

    Type: Revolutionary Stories. Location: Governor's Palace Garden

    Enjoy an interactive public audience with a Founding Father of our nation in the historical context of the 18th century, discussing political and social events of the day.

  • Scherenschnitte...What's That?

    Type: Museum Program. Location: DeWitt Wallace Museum

    Drop in and try your hand at the German art of scissor cutting. Make a keepsake to take home based on folk art on exhibit.

    Programs and exhibitions at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum are supported by the DeWitt Wallace Endowment Fund.


  • The Actor's Trunk

    Type: Day Program. Location: Mary Stith House

    How does the colonial performing artist develop his art? How are costumes, sets, scripts, and music brought to life for a colonial audience? Drop in and chat with our Performing Arts staff as they share with you some costuming, props and theatrical images.

    Stay for as little or as long as you wish—this is the chance to ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask.
